Belles Fleurs Quilt Pattern & Templates

This quilt features a variation of the classic Jacob’s Ladder block & a wonderful scrappy mix of fabrics typical of many quilts from the 1950’s. It features our fabric range Ruby’s Coverlet, a collection of reproductions of our favourite vintage  feed sacks and fabrics from the early to mid-20th century.

Finished size approximately 74 1/2” wide x 74 1/2” length. (Approx 189cm x 189cm)

Fabric Requirements

FOUR PATCH BLOCKS

(2.5” squares) 1.5 metres of fabric made up of a variety of different fabrics, as many as you like. Make sure to include some larger prints, all in medium to darker fabrics. If purchasing fabric specifically for this project, select a variety of fat 1/8ths for larger prints and fat 16ths for smaller scale prints. Allow extra if you prefer a lot of fussy cutting.

(1.5” squares) 1.1 metres of fabric made up of a variety of different fabrics, as many as you like. Select medium to darker fabrics, focusing on smaller scale prints. If purchasing fabric specifically for this project, select a variety of fat 1/8th or 16ths. You may also wish to use some of the same fabrics that you have selected for Piece A.

(1.5” squares) 1.1 metres of fabric made up of a variety of different fabrics, as many as you like. Select light coloured & patterned fabrics, focusing on smaller scale prints. If purchasing fabric specifically for this project, select a variety of fat 1/8ths or 16ths. You may also like to use some of the fabrics you have selected for the triangles.

TRIANGLE BLOCKS

This block is made up of 2 triangles, 1 plain colour, (we chose pink) and one in a lightly coloured & patterned fabric, we chose 5 different fabrics to continue the scrappy theme.

You will need 1.7 metres of the plain (pink) fabric for triangles and thin outer border (this includes an extra 20cm to allow for mistakes in cutting etc.)

And 5 x 30cm of light coloured & patterned fabric for the other triangles (this will also leave you some spare fabric suitable to use for Piece C in Block 1 if preferred)

Binding: 8 metres of bias binding or if you prefer to make your own, 60cm of 110cm wide fabric.

A lovely, lined drawstring bag & sewing roll, made with our favourite hexagons

and embellished with embroidery.

The beautiful embroidery design is printed on Sulky Stick and Stitch

self-adhesive stabiliser.

Simply stick the design onto your project, embroider and embellish as you wish

and then gently wash away the dissolving stabiliser.

The pattern includes a general guide for assembling the hexagons, we have use English Paper

Piecing, however if you prefer hand piecing the pattern includes pattern pieces for the hexagons.

If you would like hexagon papers and templates, they are available separately.

This pattern also includes the stick & stitch panels for the embroidery, instructions for use, tips &

suggestions for the embroidery and a simple stitch guide.

The step-by-step instructions for the construction of the bag and the sewing roll include helpful

illustrations.

This quilt features a fun variation of an old quilt block called Strength in Union, combined with a wonderful scrappy collection of fabrics. It is the perfect project to use up precious scraps or to collect a wide variety of new fabrics. Suitable for hand or machine piecing.

The finished size of the quilt is approximately 80″ x 80″ (Approx 203cm x 203cm)

We used DMC Eco Vita organic wool threads to stitch our panel, they are available in beautiful sets in our thread department.

The design is approximately 24cm x 20cm.

Please note the second photo demonstrates how the image looks on a pieces of fabric before it is stitched, the fabric is not included.

This quilt features some of our favourite classic old quilt blocks including five different pieced star blocks & one appliqué star.

The quilt is made with our new range Constance, along with a few other favourites including Liberty & French General.

The pattern includes illustrated instructions and patterns, suitable for machine piecing with the exception of the hand pieced 8 pointed stars which we paper pieced, and the appliqué blocks.

If you prefer hand piecing the patterns are suitable for that method too.

The finished size is 80″ x 80″ but can be made smaller, in 20″ increments if desired.

Kit includes:

the pattern, a very generous starter pack of fabrics, enough for at least half the quilt if not more (depending on how much fussy cutting you would like to do). The fabrics will include a beautiful selection from our new range Constance, along with other l’uccello prints, Liberty, French General and a lovely scrappy mix of other fabrics. Most of the fabrics in the quilt will be in the kit, we did use a few small pieces of vintage fabrics which won’t be in the kit but we will add some lovely little extras. The fabrics will be a mix of fat 1/8ths & fat 16ths.

The kit also includes a template & paper set for all of the triangle shapes, English Paper Piecing papers for the 8 pointed stars and a mylar template for the appliqué stars.

The kit will come packed in a beautiful box, a lovely momento for when you have completed your quilt.

The kits will be ready to ship late May.
