A simple classic old style quilt, perfect for scrappy quilt lovers, we used close to 200 fabrics in ours.
I made this quilt quite a while ago and didn’t think to make any notes, so apologies if any of the numbers are a bit off.
Cut 3 inch squares of as many fabrics as you like, the finished size of our quilt is approximately 82” x 62”, if you want to make yours a similar size you will need around 1280 squares.
You will need at least 4m metres of fabric for the front (made up of as many fabrics as you like) and around 3.6 metres of fabric for the backing.
You will not have to cut any triangles, the squares are sewn first, then cut as described in the illustration below.
Once all of your squares are sewn, cut and pressed open, arrange them in sets if 4 to join together to form a square block, as shown in the photo below.
When they have all been joined into blocks, repeat the same process, joining 4 blocks together to form new larger square block.
You can now arrange your blocks in 10 rows of 8 blocks and sew together to form long strips.
When you have 10 long strips, sew them together to finish your quilt.
Quilt and bind as desired.
